Gently used tarps, brightly colored duct tape and super cool bungee cords all find their way into the unique and virtually indestructible handbags, totes and wine carriers we create in our little shack out back-

We just can't help ourselves! We were born to shop!
(sort of...)

When we saw all of the cool junk that was being thrown away at the local dump (oh sorry, transfer station), we decided to position ourselves at the entrance and head it off at the pass! This way we get the best selection with little or no hair pulling (think: Filene's basement...NOT!) and what might have ended up at the bottom of an ever increasing pile of waste, gets a new life as a hip and fashionable piece of wearable art!

HickChicBags was created in 2007 by artist, designer and maker, Julia Ventresco of OneWomanStudio - a small, independent design and craft studio based in Ellsworth, Maine.

Each piece created at OneWomanStudio incorporates ordinary functional items used in new and ingenious ways, combined with appealing, quirky design, and an off-beat sense of humor.

As with all of the items created at OneWomanStudio, HickChicBags are made with at least 85% recycled, repurposed or reclaimed materials.
